Free Practice:
I decided to give the new leathers a try in the first practise, but found they restricted me way too much, so unfortunately FP1 was a write off. After making some changes to the bike, I slipped back into the old trusty leathers and headed out for FP2, but quickly found the changes to the bike were too harsh, giving it the same handling properties of a canal barge, making it very difficult to turn and to set a respectable time.
Qualifying & Sprint Race:
We made a few more adjustments before heading out to qualifying which really helped, managing to slip back into the 1:10s but couldn’t quite put a decent lap together ending up P21 on the grid.
The sprint race was a tough one, I’d got an average start but on the first lap two riders came together out of Roberts, and unfortunately one was rushed to hospital. Fingers crossed Josh is okay and has a speedy recovery.
After a long delay the restart saw me make a better start but unfortunately didn’t make much progress throughout the race, eventually placing P18 overall and P16 in class.
Warm up & Feature Race:
We continued to make a few adjustments which felt like a positive step in warm up, and it definitely made for a better race.
Despite the clutch feeling abit grabby off the line I got a pretty good start but was too tentative into the first corner, as I didn’t want to get boxed in.
I continued to make progress over the first few laps and chipped away until around lap 10/11 when the rear came round and threw me out of the seat exiting Roberts, after recovering and a few more passes the arm pump eventually kicked in. I then managed the rest of the race as best I could placing P17 overall and P14 in class.
Definitely not the weekend I was expecting, ultimately falling short of my goal, however, despite this I’m glad we made some progress towards the end of the weekend and know what I can do to improve going forwards.
Next up, Knockhill!
